Getting to Fanning Island is definitely an adventure, but it’s actually pretty straightforward once you break it down. Think of it in two parts: you handle getting to the region, and Fanning Huts handles the rest.
What you do:
Book a commercial flight on Fiji Airways to Christmas Island (CXI).
Where it leaves from:
Nadi (Fiji).
Important note:
As soon as you get your confirmation email, forward it to the Fanning Huts team so they can sync up the rest of your travel.
What happens:
The Fanning Huts team meets you right at the airport on Christmas Island.
The stay:
Depending on how the local flight schedules line up, you might spend a night or two in a homestay on Christmas Island first (which is already included in your package).
What happens:
Fanning Huts puts you on a small regional flight with Air Kiribati over to Fanning Island (Tabuaeran Airport / TNV).
Flight time:
Around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Small plane, incredible views.
Step 4:
Trucks & Boats to the Huts
The ground leg:
When you land on Fanning Island, local transport picks you and your bags up at the airstrip and takes you to the edge of the lagoon.
The boat transfer:
Since Fanning is a coral ring surrounded by water, you’ll hop into a local boat (a panga) and ride across the lagoon straight to the huts.
Getting around later:
Boats are also how you’ll get around every day—whether you're heading out to fish, surf, or explore outer villages.
Where exactly is Fanning Huts located?
We’re based in Paelau, near the English Channel on the southern side of the island. The huts are about a 5–7 minute walk from the channel, on the lagoon side, facing calm blue waters. You can even rent bikes from us to explore the area.
