
Getting to Fanning Island is definitely an adventure, but it’s actually pretty straightforward once you break it down. Think of it in two parts: you handle getting to the region, and Fanning Huts handles the rest.

Purchase Fishing License (Priority #1):
Immediately upon arrival at the airport, purchase a Fly Fishing License. These are available directly inside the airport terminal.
Meet Fanning Huts Transfer Staff:
Locate the driver/representative holding a sign reading: Fanning Huts Guests.
Overnight Accommodation Transfer:
Board the designated transport vehicle to the overnight lodging selected by Fanning Huts. Rest overnight before the island hopper connection.
Next Morning Transfer:
Vehicle pick-up from overnight lodging back to the airfield.
Flight Schedule:
Departure time: ~9:00 AM
Estimated Arrival on Fanning Island: ~11:50 PM
Crucial Note: Air Kiribati schedules fluctuate frequently. Keep the entire day open and plan no prior commitments.
Strict Weight & Luggage Record:
Document exact passenger weights and gear weights clearly on all travel manifests to avoid delays or inquiries.
Airport Pickup
The Fanning Huts local team/family meets guests directly at the airstrip.
Channel Crossing:
Guests are escorted to the boat to cross the channel to the primary settlement area where Fanning Huts is situated.

Where exactly is Fanning Huts located?
We’re based in Paelau, near the English Channel on the southern side of the island. The huts are about a 5–7 minute walk from the channel, on the lagoon side, facing calm blue waters. You can even rent bikes from us to explore the area.
